SPENIX FIELD GUIDE · BASKETBALL BUYING
The short answer: Choose the jersey and shorts as a complete playing kit. Confirm your league rules, fit a sample, check the roster and approve the artwork before placing the team order.
A basketball uniform has to work while a player is reaching, turning and moving—not only while standing in a catalogue pose. It also needs clear numbers and a coordinated team look. Get those basics right before paying for extra design details.

Start with the league, not the logo
Ask which rulebook and competition-specific requirements apply. The 2026 FIBA Official Basketball Rules contain uniform provisions, but a school league or local tournament may follow different rules. Confirm colours, numbering, logos and any base-layer requirements with the actual organiser.
| Decision | What to ask | What to approve |
|---|---|---|
| Uniform purpose | Games, practice or both? | A specification for each use |
| Colour options | What does the competition require? | Main and alternate combinations |
| Fit | Which cuts and size charts are available? | A sample and checked size run |
| Decoration | How are logos, names and numbers applied? | Front and back artwork |
| Order total | What is included in the quoted set? | A complete written cost breakdown |
| Replacements | Can small add-on orders be made? | Minimums, expected timing and saved specifications |
Review the jersey and shorts separately
A player may need different jersey and short sizes. The armholes, shoulder width and jersey length deserve their own check. For shorts, review the waistband, rise and length during movement. Ask whether the supplier permits mixed sizing within a set rather than assuming every top and bottom must share a label.
- Reach above the head as if taking a shot.
- Extend both arms and turn the torso.
- Check the armhole does not rub uncomfortably.
- Bend and move in the shorts rather than judging them standing still.
- Try the usual base layer if one will be worn.
Keep the number easy to recognise
Choose contrast that works from the sideline. A pattern can carry the team identity without cutting through every part of a digit. Review both the front and back at a small scale. Check number assignments before the proof reaches the supplier; fixing a shared roster is easier than correcting finished shirts.

Budget the whole set
Define what “uniform” means on each quote. Is it a jersey only, a jersey-and-shorts set or a package with warm-ups? Are individual names included? Ask about sampling, freight, taxes and any delivery-related costs. A low jersey-only price cannot fairly be compared with a complete personalised set.
Team-order calculator
Change the numbers to plan your order. Prices are your own inputs, not a Spenix quote. This tool does not send or store your entries.
Formula: players × sets per player + extra sets. Budget = total sets × entered set price + other costs. Taxes, freight, duties and fees must be included in your own inputs. If your browser disables the tool, use these formulas directly.
The example above starts with 12 players, two sets each and two spares: 26 sets. It is not a roster rule or a Spenix price. Enter the actual set price and other costs from your written quote. Calculate warm-ups separately if their unit price is different.
Plan for care and replacement orders
Give players the finished garment’s care instructions. Nike TEAM’s general cleaning advice provides a useful reference, but your item’s own instructions take priority. Keep the original style, fabric, artwork, colour references and size chart for future orders.
What to send with your request
- Player count, age group and required in-hand date.
- A list of jerseys, shorts, alternates and optional items.
- Logo files and permission for sponsor artwork.
- One roster with sizes, names and numbers.
- Your budget scope: what it must include, not only a target price.

Quick answers
Can we order only jerseys?
Ask for a jersey-only quote if that is what you need. State it clearly so it is not confused with a complete set.
Are reversible jerseys suitable for games?
They may suit some competitions, but acceptance depends on the organiser’s rules and the actual garment. Get confirmation before ordering.
Do we need a different size chart for women’s or youth cuts?
Use the exact chart for each offered cut. Do not translate size labels between patterns without measurements or a fitting.
Build a kit your team will want to wear.
Send Spenix your roster size, design idea and required arrival date. Ask for a written breakdown of materials, decoration, sizes, shipping and any extra costs before you approve production.
