SPENIX FIELD GUIDE · REVERSIBLE BASKETBALL
The short answer: A reversible jersey gives you two wearable colour sides in one garment. It can simplify practice teams, but compare comfort, number visibility and league rules before choosing it for games.
The appeal is easy to understand: turn the jersey around and change team colours. That can be helpful in a practice session. But two sides do not automatically equal two competition-approved uniforms, and the actual construction matters more than a product label.

When can a reversible jersey make sense?
- Practice sessions where coaches regularly divide the squad.
- Camps and recreational programmes needing simple colour changes.
- Travel-light situations where one compatible garment suits the activity.
- Some league uses, but only when the organiser accepts the specification.
For formal matches, get written guidance from the organiser before ordering. The current rules may address colours, numbers and logo placement in ways that a generic practice jersey does not meet. Spenix cannot approve a kit on behalf of a competition.
| Decision | Reversible jersey | Separate jerseys |
|---|---|---|
| Colour change | Turn the garment to its other side | Change to the second shirt |
| Construction | Ask whether it uses layers and how seams are finished | Each shirt can have its own construction |
| Comfort | Try both sides during movement | Test each style and fabric separately |
| Names and numbers | Confirm what appears on both sides | Check each colourway’s artwork |
| Laundry rotation | One item still needs washing and drying | A separate clean shirt may be available |
| Match acceptance | Must be checked with the organiser | Still requires rule and artwork checks |
Check both sides as finished products
Put each side on during the sample fitting. Check the neckline, armholes, seam feel and length. Look for show-through and whether the opposite design remains visible. Ask about the fabric and layer construction rather than assuming every reversible jersey is heavier, lighter or more breathable than every separate shirt.
If the jersey includes two fabric layers, discuss how they are joined and how the garment behaves after washing. If it uses a different construction, ask the supplier to explain it. There is no need to guess from an attractive 3D picture.
Give each side readable numbers
The 2026 FIBA rulebook includes specific number and uniform provisions. Local leagues may differ. Confirm the relevant requirements and get a proof for each side, including any player names. A number visible only on one side can limit how the jersey is used.

Count garments, not colour views
If 15 players each receive one reversible jersey, that is 15 jerseys, not 30 garments. Adding two spare jerseys makes 17. You may have two colour options, but you still have one physical item per player to wash, pack and keep track of. The calculator counts physical sets or garments, depending on the product you are pricing.
Team-order calculator
Change the numbers to plan your order. Prices are your own inputs, not a Spenix quote. This tool does not send or store your entries.
Formula: players × sets per player + extra sets. Budget = total sets × entered set price + other costs. Taxes, freight, duties and fees must be included in your own inputs. If your browser disables the tool, use these formulas directly.
Compare the complete cost
Ask for one quote for reversible jerseys and another for the actual separate-shirt option you are considering. Include the same decoration scope, sizes and delivery costs. Avoid claiming a fixed percentage saving: the answer depends on the products and quantities in those two quotes.
Use our teamwear decoration comparison to frame printing questions, and the tech-pack guide to record which artwork belongs to each side.
Plan the care routine
The finished garment’s care label should cover the whole item. The FTC apparel-labeling resource explains the role of care instructions. If different decorations are added later, ask the decorator whether care requirements change.

Quick answers
Can a reversible jersey be used for every basketball league?
No universal answer applies. Confirm the current organiser’s requirements and have the actual garment and artwork reviewed.
Are both sides allowed to carry the same number?
Your roster and competition requirements decide the details. Ask for clearly labelled proofs of both sides and verify the number assignment.
Will reversible jerseys always save money?
Not necessarily. Compare complete written quotes for the same intended use, decoration, quantity and delivery scope.
Build a kit your team will want to wear.
Send Spenix your roster size, design idea and required arrival date. Ask for a written breakdown of materials, decoration, sizes, shipping and any extra costs before you approve production.
