SPENIX FIELD GUIDE · BASKETBALL SIZING
The short answer: Use the size chart for the exact jersey cut and shorts. Check the chest, armholes, length and waistband during movement. Do not select a whole team’s sizes from age or height alone.
Basketball uniforms are often chosen for a particular look: close and athletic, or more relaxed. Both still need to let the player move comfortably. A full, shaped product mockup is a design presentation—not proof that an extremely tight size will fit every player.

Body measurements and garment measurements are different
Read the chart heading first. If it gives body chest measurements, follow that body-measurement method. If it gives finished jersey dimensions, compare those with a suitable garment measured in the same way. Ask for help when the method is unclear. A flat garment width and a body circumference cannot be compared directly.
| Fit area | What to check | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Chest | The chart’s body or finished-garment method | That every brand’s medium has the same dimensions |
| Armhole | Comfort and coverage during reaching | That a sleeveless top needs no shoulder-area fitting |
| Length | How the hem behaves in the normal playing setup | That height alone determines the size |
| Shorts waist | Actual waistband fit and permitted adjustment | That jersey and short sizes must always match |
| Shorts rise and length | Movement, comfort and player preference | That a standing photo shows the whole fit |
| Base layer | Fit with the layer normally used | That every player wears the same underlayer |
Use one measuring method for the whole team
Nike’s tops measuring guide is an example of a brand-specific body chart and measuring method. It is not a Spenix basketball chart. Ask your supplier for the chart that applies to the exact style you are buying and keep the units consistent.
- Record centimetres or inches clearly; do not mix them silently.
- Measure a body or a garment according to the chart—not a mixture of both.
- Do not stretch a garment flat unless the method requires it.
- Record the cut and chart revision with the selected size.
- Use a sample for players between sizes or with uncertain measurements.
Check the jersey while moving
Ask the player to reach overhead, extend both arms and turn naturally. Check the shoulder area and neckline for pulling. Review coverage at the armhole and the hem position with shorts. If the jersey will normally be tucked, test that setup. An uncomfortable seam or constantly shifting hem is a fitting issue worth resolving before a bulk order.

Handle youth and different cuts clearly
Youth, adult and other offered cuts should have distinct labels in the roster. A youth large is not automatically an adult small. For children, avoid making age the only sizing instruction. If families want extra room for growth, discuss the trade-off and confirm a size instead of promising that a bigger uniform will always work better.
Our basketball design guide can help choose the look, while the tech-pack guide keeps the actual style and sizing specification clear. If the team is also buying football wear, do not reuse its football size chart for basketball: the equipment and garment cut differ.
Count the order after sizes are confirmed
A 14-player example with two sets per player and two spares totals 30 sets. That total does not tell you which sizes to buy. First collect the individual choices, then sum each size column and confirm the overall quantity matches the roster. Keep optional warm-ups on their own sheet.
Team-order calculator
Change the numbers to plan your order. Prices are your own inputs, not a Spenix quote. This tool does not send or store your entries.
Formula: players × sets per player + extra sets. Budget = total sets × entered set price + other costs. Taxes, freight, duties and fees must be included in your own inputs. If your browser disables the tool, use these formulas directly.
Do not use washing to fix a wrong size
Trying to shrink a uniform can affect fabric and decoration unpredictably. Follow the actual label. Nike TEAM’s care advice is a general reference, not a method for altering a custom jersey. Resolve fit before production where possible.
A closer look at the design

Quick answers
How long should a basketball jersey be?
It depends on the pattern, player and playing setup. Use the actual length specification and a movement check rather than a universal rule for every body.
Should shorts always match the jersey size?
Not necessarily. Ask whether separate sizing is available and record both fields clearly.
Can the calculator choose my size?
No. It counts quantities and your entered budget. Body size selection needs the correct chart, measurements and often a sample.
