SPENIX FIELD GUIDE · FLAG FOOTBALL
The short answer: Check your league and event rules before ordering custom jerseys. Then choose a comfortable jersey, suitable shorts and a layout that keeps the flag belt clear.
Flag football uniforms should not be tackle uniforms with the equipment removed. The jersey length, shorts and belt area need their own review. A sharp-looking kit matters, but the first question is whether your team is allowed to wear it at the event.

Check event rules before you spend money
This point can prevent an expensive mistake. NFL FLAG’s regional event rules say the event normally provides jerseys and flag belts and requires teams to wear them, unless otherwise noted. A custom kit may still suit training or a different league, but do not assume it can replace event-issued apparel.
The NFL FLAG equipment guide also highlights shorts without pockets. Confirm the current organiser’s rules on shorts, visible flags, jersey tucking, colours and required equipment before production. Spenix is not an official NFL supplier or an event-approval authority.
| Item | What to confirm | Why it belongs on the order sheet |
|---|---|---|
| Jersey | Permitted style, length and colour | Some events issue their own jerseys |
| Shorts | Pocket rules and belt compatibility | The flag area must remain usable |
| Flag belt | Required type and event provision | Not every competition uses the same setup |
| Numbers | Required placement and duplication rules | Avoid fixing an entire roster after printing |
| Additional equipment | Current event requirements | A uniform package does not necessarily include equipment |
Get the fit right around the belt
Try the shirt and shorts together with the exact belt used by the team. Check the normal playing position, then run through reaching and turning movements. Ask whether the hem stays where the rules require it. A long, loose top can interfere with the setup; a top that is too short may not stay tucked when tucking is required.
- Check adult and youth cuts separately.
- Confirm the waistband is comfortable with the belt in place.
- Review the shorts construction rather than assuming pockets can be removed later.
- Give families the supplier’s chart, not a generic fashion-shirt chart.
Use numbers people can actually read
Give the number a calm background. A busy pattern running through the number can look exciting on a laptop and unclear from the sideline. Review a small thumbnail as well as the full-size proof. Ask for front and back artwork and check every player entry against one final roster file.
If you need help sorting pattern and fibre terms, see our football fabric guide. For the general measuring process, start with the football jersey measurement guide, then ask for the specific flag-jersey chart because the cut may differ.

A real participation figure—with the right context
Count players and spares separately
For example, 12 players receiving one kit each plus two team spare kits means 14 kits. Decide which spare sizes are useful rather than adding random sizes at checkout. If a goalkeeper-style colour or second colourway is not relevant to your league, do not buy it simply because another sport uses one.
Team-order calculator
Change the numbers to plan your order. Prices are your own inputs, not a Spenix quote. This tool does not send or store your entries.
Formula: players × sets per player + extra sets. Budget = total sets × entered set price + other costs. Taxes, freight, duties and fees must be included in your own inputs. If your browser disables the tool, use these formulas directly.
What to send with your quote request
- League and event name, with the relevant uniform rules.
- Confirmed player count and youth/adult size split.
- Jersey and shorts requirements, listed as separate items.
- Original logo files and permission to use any sponsor branding.
- Required in-hand date and delivery destination.
- Replacement-order questions, including minimum quantity and colour matching.
Ask the supplier to separate the concept image from the production specification. The approved fabric, construction, decoration and size chart should be written down. A 3D picture is useful for design, but it cannot prove pocket construction, stretch or event acceptance.
Quick answers
Can custom jerseys be worn at every NFL FLAG event?
No. Check the specific event. Regional rules normally require the issued jerseys and belts, unless an exception is stated.
Are flag football jerseys the same as tackle jerseys?
Not necessarily. Flag kits are generally planned without shoulder-pad accommodation. Use the actual pattern and intended equipment setup for fitting.
Can we order names later?
Ask before the first order. Decoration compatibility, setup charges and replacement minimums can change the practical answer.
Build a kit your team will want to wear.
Send Spenix your roster size, design idea and required arrival date. Ask for a written breakdown of materials, decoration, sizes, shipping and any extra costs before you approve production.
