SPENIX FIELD GUIDE · SOCCER SIZING
The short answer: Use the supplier’s chart for the exact jersey cut. Compare it with your body measurements or a well-fitting garment, depending on what that chart measures. A size label alone is not a measurement.
One brand’s large can feel different from another brand’s large. A slim match jersey can also fit differently from a relaxed training top made by the same supplier. Start with measurements and movement, not with the size printed on your favourite casual shirt.

First, identify the kind of chart
A body chart tells you the body measurements a size is intended to fit. A garment chart tells you the dimensions of the finished item. Do not compare a body circumference with a flat half-chest width and treat them as the same number. Ask the supplier if the chart does not clearly identify its method.
| Measurement | How to record it | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Body chest | Measure around the fullest part, using the chart’s method | Pulling the tape tight or holding a deep breath |
| Flat jersey width | Lay a suitable jersey flat and measure at the specified position | Comparing a flat width with a body circumference |
| Jersey length | Use the supplier’s stated start and end points | Measuring from a different part of the collar |
| Sleeve or shoulder | Record only using the chart’s described points | Comparing two different sleeve constructions |
| Shorts and socks | Use their own size information | Assuming a jersey size fixes the whole kit |
A simple measurement example
Imagine a garment chart gives a flat chest width of 48 cm. That is a flat width, not a 48 cm body chest. Doubling it gives an approximate garment circumference of 96 cm, but this still does not tell you the recommended body size. The pattern, stretch and intended room matter. This example explains the measurement system; it is not a Spenix size recommendation.
Measure, compare, move

What should a comfortable soccer fit look like?
The shirt should allow the player’s normal movement without an uncomfortable neckline, pulling seams or a hem that behaves badly in play. A player who prefers a close fit may choose differently from someone who wants a relaxed cut. Record the intended cut as well as the size. Do not promise that extra-tight clothing improves performance.
- Reach forward as if taking a throw-in.
- Raise the arms and turn the torso.
- Check sleeve comfort and movement at the shoulder.
- Review shirt length with the actual shorts.
- Test the normal base layer if it will be worn.

Youth sizing needs its own process
Age is a useful registration field, but it is not enough to select a uniform. Children of the same age can have very different measurements. Give families a short measuring guide and a clear deadline. If you are planning for future growth, discuss it openly rather than silently adding room to every size.
The Nike men’s tops size guide illustrates a brand-specific body measurement approach. Use it as an example of why the chart’s method matters—not as a substitute for Spenix’s style-specific chart.
Build a clean team size run
Use one roster with separate fields for jersey cut, jersey size, short size and sock size. Our soccer jersey ordering guide covers the wider order. The ordering-mistakes guide helps you check the final file before approval.
Suppose 18 players each receive one full kit and the club keeps two spare kits. That is 20 kits, but the size distribution still has to be collected. The calculator counts your order; it deliberately does not guess a body size from height, age or weight.
Team-order calculator
Change the numbers to plan your order. Prices are your own inputs, not a Spenix quote. This tool does not send or store your entries.
Formula: players × sets per player + extra sets. Budget = total sets × entered set price + other costs. Taxes, freight, duties and fees must be included in your own inputs. If your browser disables the tool, use these formulas directly.
Check rules without confusing them with fit
Kit fit and competition acceptance are different questions. IFAB Law 4’s equipment guidance covers items such as required equipment and colours. Your organiser should confirm the current competition-specific requirements before you approve artwork and base-layer colours.
Quick answers
Are soccer jerseys meant to be tight?
Some cuts are close-fitting and others are relaxed. Choose the intended cut and check movement. A tight product mockup is not an instruction to buy clothing that restricts movement.
Can I choose a youth size by age?
Use measurements and the actual chart. Age alone is too broad to identify a reliable fit.
Should I order every player one size larger?
No blanket rule works for every cut. Compare the correct measurements and use samples where possible.
